Oklahoma County Deputy Dead, Another Wounded, Suspect Caught

An Oklahoma County deputy is dead and another is injured after a suspect opened fire at them in Oklahoma CitySgt. Bobby Swartz and another deputy were serving an eviction notice at a home in the 2,200-block of Southwest 78th Street yesterday afternoon when the suspect, Benjamin Plank, opened fire at them. Plank then left the scene of the shooting and led authorities on a chase that ended when he was apprehended outside the Tinker Air Force Base main gate. Sgt. Swartz later died, and the other deputy was hospitalized.

“Please keep the family of Sgt. Bobby Swartz in your prayers. Bobby was killed this afternoon serving lockout paperwork,” Oklahoma County Sheriff’s Office officials said on social media.

“On behalf of the entire Oklahoma County family, I wish to extend our heartfelt sympathy to the family of Sgt. Swartz and to the other deputies involved in Monday’s tragic shooting. Three sworn law enforcement officers were performing vital duties when they were maliciously attacked by a suspect who also fired upon other law enforcement officers and endangered the public in a lengthy chase. We owe a great debt to the officers who brought that pursuit to a successful conclusion with no additional injuries or loss of life." said Brian Maughan, Chairman of the Board of the Oklahoma County Commissioners. "Most of all our thoughts, prayers and best wishes go out to the Swartz family, and by extension to all of the members of the Sheriff’s office. May they know that we stand with them in this time of loss.”

Oklahoma officials are reacting after a suspect shot two Oklahoma County deputies and killed one of them. Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt called it a heartbreaking day and noted that he is praying for the fallen deputy's family and the deputy that was injured. Oklahoma City Mayor David Holt called the shooting absolutely heartbreaking and he added that the entire city sends its condolences and prayers. Oklahoma Attorney General John O'Connor called for the public to join his office in prayer for the Oklahoma County Sheriff's Office, their loved ones and the law enforcement community.
