At least two deaths are being blamed on the severe weather that ripped through the state. Early this morning, officials in Hughes County confirmed a man and a child died in the town of Holdenville, where more than a dozen homes were either damaged or destroyed by possible tornadoes.

Officials in Murray County are reporting numerous injuries in the town of Sulphur, where significant damage has been reported and search and rescue operations are underway.

Widespread damage was also reported in Ardmore.

Damage was also extensive in the Marietta area, where all lanes of I-35 were closed after 18-wheelers flipped over and debris was scattered across the roadway. The Marietta Hospital also sustained some damage. Hospital patients took shelter during the storms and there were no reported injuries.

Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported injuries and power lines down in Carter County at the Flying J Truck Stop. Plain View School was also damaged.

Cotton County Emergency Management reported at least five homes damaged in the Devol area. Numerous trees are down.

Hughes County Emergency Management reported more than a dozen homes were damaged or destroyed in Holdenville.

In Norman, some damage was reported at the Westheimer Airport and tree damage was reported on the University of Oklahoma north campus.

Okmulgee County Emergency Management reported damage in the town of Morris, with power lines and power poles down.

Garfield County Emergency Management reported two homes damaged in the Hillsdale area.

Grant County reported numerous trees damaged or down.

Kay County Emergency Management reported some structures damaged, several power poles broken, and numerous trees down.

Payne County Emergency Management reports damage to trees and outbuildings near Lone Chimney.

Gov. Kevin Stitt declared a State of Emergency for Carter, Cotton, Garfield, Hughes, Kay, Lincoln, Love, Murray, Okfuskee, Oklahoma, Payne, and Pontotoc counties.

The executive order reads, in part: “Due to impacts from severe storms, tornadoes, straight-line winds, hail, and flooding beginning April 27, 2024 including extensive damage to power lines and infrastructure, it is necessary to assist and expedite all efforts of relief.”

Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management is asking residents impacted by the storms to report damages to their property at damage.ok.gov. Reporting damage helps local and state emergency managers better coordinate response and recovery efforts. Residents can report damage to homes, businesses or agriculture through the online survey.
