Tornado Causes Widespread Damage In Claremore & Pryor

2 people died and more than 20 people were injured after storms ripped across Northeastern Oklahoma Saturday night.

The two deaths were reported in Mayes County. Injuries were reported in Mayes and Rogers County .

Damage was reported from Claremore to Pryor.

In Claremore, the damage included the First Baptist Church, county courthouse and some homes. Homes were also damaged in Pryor and Salina. A campground was also hit. Trees and powerlines were knocked down throughout the area.

"You're not at all used to driving down your hometown streets and seeing big old trees that have been there forever and homes with those trees on them," said Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton.

The National Weather Service says a survey team has found EF2 damage in Claremore, while EF3 damage was found east of Claremore north of Highway 20.

They continue to survey damage in Green Country.

Pixley Lumber Company in Claremore has placed free plywood in their parking lot for anyone who may need it.

The Will Rogers Roundup Club at Stampede Arena is providing free meals and a place to sit. This includes those affected by the storms and all first responders. Go to the north end of the arena and look for the Hospitality area.

The American Red Cross has opened to shelters for victims:

Pryor: Mayes County Fairgrounds (2200 NE First St.)

Claremore: Memorial Heights Baptist Church (1500 W Will Rogers Blvd.)

Oklahoma Department of Emergency Management is asking residents impacted by the storms to report damages to their property at damage.ok.gov.
