A woman convicted in connection with the death of her daughter is staying in prison. The Oklahoma Pardon and Parole Board voted yesterday to deny early release for Raye Dawn Smith. Smith was sentenced to 27 years in prison for enabling abuse in the death of her two-year-old daughter, Kelsey Briggs. Kelsey's father, Lance Briggs, told the Board Smith may be a model prisoner, but she was not a model mother and that her sentence is not excessive.

Briggs died at the family's Meeker home in 2005.
